Hydrofoils

Sorting:

When and for what hydrofoils are required?

In this article we will try to explain how to use hydrofoils, advantages and disadvantages of this product.

First of all let’s determine types of hydrofoil:

- Single-piece (mono) hydrofoil - details of construction allow to install this type of hydrofoil on outboard engines of high and normal power/capacity level.

- Standard hydrofoil – it consists of 2 parts and designed for outboard engines of small normal power/capacity level.

Hydrofoils are useful thanks to the following advantages:

Quickest transition onto plane. According to test drives it will take for 15-20% less time, if you have hydrofoils.

  • Thanks to extension of anti-cavitation plate size yaw stability on the surface of the water improves a lot.
  • After hydrofoil installation head of the vessel do not go up too much (cobra effect), what is really important when you open up the engine.
  • Hydrofoils enhance comfort during moving.
  • There is no air penetrating.
  • Decrease in fuel consumption at the cruising speed.

Disadvantages:

  • Decrease of maximum speed.
  • More time is required to clean propeller. In case of driving in shallow water aquatic vegetation clogs up propeller and because of hydrofoil it is not easy to reach propeller to clean it.

If you install hydrofoils on low-power engine, most likely you will not feel any improvements. To get a feeling of positive effect you should consult with our managers who will advise which hydrofoils are better for your outboard engine and boat.
